We are Students for Local Action (SLA).
We seek to equip the next generation of policymakers, lobbyists, and analysts with the skills necessary to ensure a just, sustainable future through all. We build such skills through real-world experience with policy creation and advocacy.
We are committed to climate advocacy.
As the only organization at the University of Oklahoma (OU) pursuing climate action through policy creation, we work tirelessly to ensure that our voices are heard. We collaborate with local and national organizations to promote our ideas and engage in purposeful dialogue.
During our one-and-a-half years as an organization, SLA has:
written three policy proposals,
submitted two public comments to state agencies,
placed two members on city council committees,
acted as the only organization from Oklahoma to sign the 2023 National Youth Climate Statement,
catered to nearly 40 members on our Engage platform,
and joined beVisioneers: The Mercedes-Benz Fellowship via our founder.
